Redacted Tonight with Lee Camp & Naomi Karavani:
How Congress Has LITERALLY Made Themselves Dumber [x]
[April 29, 2016]
Lee Camp: The Prime Minister of Canada recently explained the concept of quantum computing. He understands that, yet, our representatives don’t know how to send email? Isn’t that a little pathetic? They’re writing laws about NSA data encryption.
Naomi Karavani: Well, Congress actually had a group of independent experts, called the Office of Technology Assessment, or OTA, until they cut the budget in 1995. They basically voted for a self-imposed lobotomy.
Lee: It sounds like Congress needs the OTA now, more than ever.
Naomi: Right Lee. Like, we’re going to have Comic Con on Capital Hill? The problem is, nerds rely on facts and not political pressure. That’s why Reagan called the OTA a disaster!
Lee: So what about issues like Climate Change or Fracking?
Naomi: Well, when it comes controversial issues Republican Congressman say, “I’m not qualified! I’m not a scientist! I never met that boy!”
Lee: So in order to get their policies passed, they benefit by not having experts around? That’s insane!
Naomi: That’s exactly it. So, they pass bills that are dangerously vague and maintain corruption. And also, Congress just doesn’t want to associate with nerds! High School never ends!
